What we move, and how

One yard. Every route.

Minutes from Dublin Airport and a short drive to Dublin Ferry Port. Long standing relationships with airlines and trusted agents worldwide mean we can accommodate almost any destination.

RoadCooper horsebox at Dublin Airport

Road

Weekly services across Ireland, the UK and Europe. Boxes from two to eleven stalls, with a groom's area for travelling staff.

SeaCooper horsebox on the ferry deck

Sea

Ferry crossings from Dublin, planned around tides and rest so your horse steps off settled rather than shaken.

AirHorse air stalls being loaded onto a cargo aircraft

Air

International airfreight and charter, with flying grooms, experienced vets and every permit handled before wheels up.

EuropeCooper horseboxes waiting at the port

Europe

Regular runs to the continent with overnight stabling built into the schedule, not bolted on when something goes wrong.

AmericaHorse transport box loaded in an aircraft hold

America

Transatlantic moves start on the yard here in Dublin and finish at your barn, with quarantine and customs cleared throughout.

Middle EastHorse settled in an air stall with a groom

Middle East

Long haul routes run with our own grooms in the hold and a named logistics manager on the ground at both ends.

The fleet

Built around the horse, not the load.

Ireland's newest and most modern fleet of purpose built horseboxes. Mercedes and Renault, updated every year, built to our own specification and meeting Euro 5 emissions standards.

Air suspension, all round

A smoother ride on bumpy roads, and ramps that drop close to the ground so loading is inviting rather than a fight.

CCTV in every box

Our team keeps eyes on your horse for the whole journey, not just at the stops.

Temperature controlled

Fans manage heat and humidity in the horse area. Every trip is recorded and downloaded at the end. Rugs travel with us if it turns cold.

Adjustable herringbone stalls

Horses travel well at an angle. Stalls widen for the individual, because no two horses want the same amount of room.

Rear and side ramps

Two ways on and off, both low to the ground, so awkward yards and tight barns stop being a problem.

Power washed and disinfected

After every single journey. Stopping the spread of disease matters more than a tidy schedule.

On the road

The people in the box matter more than the box.

Our drivers are the business. Most of them have worked with horses all their lives and they load yours the way they would load their own.

  • A named logistics manager for every run
  • Regular checks and travel updates on the way
  • Immaculate overnight stabling on long routes
  • Grooms' area on board for travelling staff

Clients

What owners say when the horse gets off.

★★★★★
“Great people to work with, super caring and nice. My horse rode in luxury. She arrived rested, calm, happy. She was well taken care of the whole trip. Would recommend to anyone who loves their horse and wants the best transportation possible for them.”
TBSH
★★★★★
“Can't say enough about the professional service provided by Cooper Horses. They delivered my new seven month old filly and kept me informed every step of the way. Transportation of a baby who has never been trailered is always a concern. This was my third shipment of babies with them.”
Debbie G.
★★★★★
“Throughout the process, the whole team at Cooper were highly professional and ensured that all equine participants and equipment arrived on time.”
Liz Burke
Since 1821

Two hundred years, one trade.

When the Cooper family started in the horse business the motor vehicle had not been invented. Horses were walked and ridden home from the fairs, sales and farms of Ireland to our yard in Dublin, or to an outfarm outside the city, to wait for shipping.

Trains came, then lorries, then aircraft. We moved with all of it. Today we run Ireland's newest fleet of purpose built horse transporters, with contacts at every major airline that carries horses and trusted agents around the world.

Before you book

The questions we get most.

Our trained staff walk you through the requirements of international equine travel step by step. That covers international airfreight and charter services, health and quarantine requirements, and customs, permits and insurance. The intention is that you are left with the paperwork done and nothing to chase.

Professional horse grooms and experienced vets travel with the horses, with particular attention paid to transit and the air stalls themselves. Your horse is not left with general cargo handlers.

Horses continue to be supervised by our staff right through to quarantine release. From there it is post arrival quarantine and customs, then safe delivery of your horse to the yard.

From two stall up to eleven stall trucks, so there is a box suited to a single horse going across the country and to a full team going to a show. Stalls are herringbone and can be widened for an individual horse.

Our trucks carry additional passengers in a purpose built grooms area, so your own staff can travel with your horses on road journeys. Tell us how many when you request a quote.

Yes. Our facility at Castlefarm has large bright stables, a loading bay, a horse walker, a large sand arena and stud railed paddocks. Horses in transit are exercised every day while waiting for onward shipment.

We are licensed hauliers, approved by the Irish Department of Agriculture, and members of the Racehorse Transporters Association. Our trucks meet Euro 5 emissions standards.

Road services run 24/7 for Ireland, the UK and Europe, with weekly scheduled runs. Send the route and the date and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
